As at 31 August 2025:

  • There have been 66,826 applications to the Scheme
  • 23,173 applicants have had their outcomes advised. Of these 19,357 payments have been made totalling approximately $1.73 billion dollars
  • 3,140 have been withdrawn
  • 40,513 applications are yet to have their outcome advised. Of which:
    • 27,561 applications are actionable by the Scheme.
      • 7,428 applications are being validated with the initial contact being made
      • 13,576 applications are in the information gathering stage
      • 6,039 applications are with an IDM for a determination
      • 518 applications are being prepared for delivery of the outcome
    • 6,925 applications are unable to be actioned by the Scheme. Of these:
      • 5,046 are awaiting the applicant to provide additional information
      • 1,879 are undergoing a special assessment for serious criminal conviction/applying from gaol
  • 6,027 applications are on hold
  • Over the last six months the Scheme has received an average of 1,583 applications per month
  • There were an average of 347 applications received per month in FY18-19, 260 per month in FY19-20, 312 per month in FY20-21, 498 per month in FY21-22, 891 per month in FY22-23, 1,360 per month in FY23-24, 1,644 per month in FY24-25, and 1,545 to date in FY 25-26.
  • Over the last six months 206 reviews have been requested and 167 have been completed, of those completed 20.4% resulted in an increase in redress payment

For the month of August:

  • 385 applications were resolved
  • 33.9% of survivors have identified as a First Nations persons
  • 32.1% of survivors have indicated they are living with disability
  • 16.9% of survivors are Care Leavers*
  • 59.9% survivors accepted a Direct Personal Response as part of their redress offer
  • 7 survivors completed a DPR with 10 institutions
  • 7 survivors made contact with 8 institutions to begin the DPR process

*Care leavers are defined as applicants who indicated any of the following on their application they were a foster child, in relative kinship, court ordered care or a child migrant.
