The National Redress Scheme is for people who experienced child sexual abuse while in an institution.

This includes situations when sexual abuse happened on the premises of an institution or when it happened during an activity organised by the institution, such as a camp.

The National Redress Scheme helps people access redress and can connect them to free confidential Redress Support Services.

Redress can include access to a payment, counselling and psychological support and an apology from an institution.

You can apply to the National Redress Scheme by filling in a paper form or an online form through myGov.

Many people find it helpful to talk to someone from a Redress Support Service before deciding if they want to apply.

These are the steps when you apply:

You fill in an application form.

Send your completed form to the National Redress Scheme by post or through the myGov website if you're applying online.

The National Redress Scheme gathers information from the institutions identified in your application.

An Independent Decision Maker reviews all the information and decides the outcome.

The National Redress Scheme contacts you about the outcome.

You have time to decide whether to accept the outcome or ask for a review.

You can apply to the National Redress Scheme any time before the 30th of June 2027.

To find out more about your options or to connect with Redress Support Services call 1800 737 377 from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
